Ohio man's remains returned to mother 5 years late
LONDON, Ohio (AP) — County officials have returned a portion of an Ohio man’s remains to his family five years after he was cremated.
A victim’s advocate told Sally Sheasby that the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation had discovered part of her son Jonathan’s body.
Prosecutors in Knox County, northeast of Columbus, wrote to Sheasby in April and apologized for their mistake. Sheasby received her son’s leg bone on Tuesday.
The criminal bureau says the body part was held as a standard for future DNA testing on other items. It says it was the county’s responsibility to retrieve all body parts.
The attorney general’s office says they will meet with the Sheasby family. The Knox County Sheriff did not immediately return a message.
