Wormald takes lead in ‘Footloose’ remake

LOS ANGELES

A new face in Hollywood is stepping into Kevin Bacon’s shoes for a remake of “Footloose.” Paramount Pictures announced Tuesday that Kenny Wormald will take on the role Bacon originated in the 1984 original.

“High School Musical” heartthrob Zac Efron had planned to star but dropped out of the “Footloose” remake last year.

Wormald’s previous credits include the MTV series “Dancelife.” He will co-star alongside two-time “Dancing With the Stars” champion and country music singer Julianne Hough.

‘The Bachelor’ star splits with fianc e

“The Bachelor” is flying solo again. Jake Pavelka and Vienna Giraldi, the lovey-dovey couple who met and became engaged in front of millions of viewers on the 14th season of the ABC dating series, have called off their engagement, according to Pavelka’s spokeswoman.

After choosing 23-year-old marketing representative Giraldi on “The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love,” 32-year-old pilot Pavelka competed on the 10th season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and was eliminated fifth.

Jackson’s mother supports fan tribute

NEW YORK

Michael Jackson’s mother has given her blessing to a tribute planned to her late son a year after his death at age 50. In a video posted on YouTube, Katherine Jackson thanks people for the support they have given her family since Jackson died June 25, 2009.

She also thanked Voice Plate Productions for staging the fan event, which will be Saturday at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif. Tickets for the event start at $150 and go up to $500.

Celebration features Archuleta, Knight

WASHINGTON

“American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta and Gladys Knight will perform at the annual July Fourth concert in Washington.

“A Capitol Fourth” will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. on PBS stations.

Actor Jimmy Smits is hosting the event. Reba McEntire, Darius Rucker and the National Symphony Orchestra are also scheduled to perform.
