Members of the Kaluza family want to give back to the community. The family of Joseph Kaluza, the former KFC manager who was shot and paralyzed in March 2008, will have a giveaway from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at 1307 Ivanhoe Ave. Items available range from toys and clothes to furniture and odds and ends. All the items are free. Family members said it’s a way to give back to the community.

Toddler bitten after wandering

Police said a 2-year-old Detroit Avenue boy was bitten by a neighbor’s dog around 10:30 p.m. Monday after the child wandered into the neighbor’s yard where the dog was chained.

The child was outside with his parents who were with friends in the backyard and driveway of their home in the 700 block, police said. The child went around to the front of the house and into the neighbor’s yard where he was attacked by the cocker spaniel/Labrador retriever mix, police said. He was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital of the Mahoning Valley in Boardman for treatment of bites to his face and back of his neck, police said.

The dog was confined by its owners, and the county dog warden has been called to investigate, police said.

Wick Ave. robbery

Police said a 35-year-old Ferndale Avenue man reported being robbed at gunpoint in a parking lot in the 1300 block of Wick Avenue. The victim told police he pulled into the lot around 10:40 p.m. Monday and was confronted by two men, one of whom pulled a handgun and demanded money. The victim said he handed over $200, and the two men fled.
