Another day, another talented transfer for the YSU football team.
Tuesday, the Penguins snagged tight end Pat White, a 2006 Warren Harding High graduate who played last fall for Alfred State College, a junior college in Alfred, N.Y.
The Pioneers went 5-5 last season competing in the Northeast Football Conference.
The 6-foot-6, 215-pound White played wide receiver and caught 23 passes for 599 yards (26 yards per catch) and six touchdowns. He was named the conference’s offensive player of the week on Nov. 16 after catching four passes for 88 yards and a TD in the Pioneers’ 21-15 win over Erie C.C.
White was better known as a basketball player for the Raiders, earning third team All-Ohio honors in Division I in 2006. He was a teammate of YSU basketball player Damian Eargle, who was a sophomore in the 2005-06 season
White is the second junior college transfer to join the Penguins. Safety Will Shaw, who played for Mesa (Ariz.) Community College last year, signed with the team last month.
White’s transfer follows that of former Purdue quarterback Najee Tyler ((6-5, 235), who officially signed with YSU on Tuesday.
Tyler has four years of eligibility remaining.
