A 7-year-old girl waits to learn if she will walk normally again while the three men accused of shooting her were arraigned before a municipal court judge.

Alfonda Madison, 23, and Asa Bush, 22, who both listed Dearborn Avenue addresses, and Samson Snowden, 20, of Cedar Lane, appeared Tuesday before Judge Robert Douglas of Youngstown Municipal Court.

They are all charged with felonious assault and complicity in the Saturday shooting of the South Side girl in the parking lot of a North Side convenience store. Madison also faces a third unspecified charge.

The child’s mother, who did not want to be named, said the child was hoping to go swimming at North Side Pool. The family piled into several cars and headed to the recreation facility.

The child was shot in both legs while in the back seat of a relative’s car at the convenience store on Logan Avenue.

Witnesses told police a tan vehicle containing four men drove down Saranac Avenue west of Logan with someone firing shots at the car containing the child.

The mother said her daughter is doing well under the circumstances. She said doctors are not sure if the child will be able to walk properly without a limp or assistance because one bullet is still lodged in her leg.

“She is just in a whole lot of pain, so we try to keep her mind off of it. She colors and watches TV, but she doesn’t want to be in a car with anybody but me and my mother or immediate family members,” her mother said.

The family is concerned about meeting the child’s needs such as a wheelchair and other personal items while she is going through the healing process.

As for the men accused of shooting her daughter, the mother only wants justice.

“I want them to pay for what they have done. They have to pay for their actions,” she said.

The arraignments for Bush, Snowden and Madison went quickly with each man not entering a plea to the felony charges. They told the judge they were indigent and in need of a court-funded attorney. Judge Douglas set bond for Bush and Snowden at $250,000 each and $375,000 for Madison. They are in the Mahoning County jail.
