Free movie series at Covelli Centre

YOUNGSTOWN

The Downtown Youngstown outdoor movie series will begin next week. The free movies will begin at dusk on the lawn in front of Covelli Centre. Here is the schedule:

Workshop on how to make a short film

YOUNGSTOWN

Local filmmaker Art Byrd will present a workshop on making short films with a small crew (or no crew) at 9 a.m. July 17 and 27 at the Downtown YMCA, 17 N. Champion St. Participants will make short films.

Byrd is a former photojournalist at WFMJ-TV 21. His short films have been shown at various film festivals, and his “Ballet Audition” has had more than 1 million views on YouTube. Byrd’s work can be viewed at www. youtube.com/user/abyrdjr.

The workshops will cover scripts, equipment and lighting, casting, getting and working with a crew, storyboards, locations and editing.

The cost is $150, which includes written materials. Participants must be at least 14 and can bring their own video camera. The films made during the workshop will be screened publicly at the Lemon Grove Caf . For more information, e-mail artbyrdagain@yahoo.com.

Vehicle show

The Young Leaders Advisory Board of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society will sponsor “History to Go, Cruising Through Our Automotive History,” from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Local vehicle collectors Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Best will display their collection of cars, trucks and farm vehicles at the free program, which will be at their residence in Columbiana near state Routes 7 and 14.
