Dog bites toddler who wanders into neighbor's yard

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said a 2-year-old Detroit Avenue boy was bitten by a neighbor’s dog around 10:30 p.m. Monday after the child wandered into the neighbor’s yard where the dog was chained.

The child was outside with his parents who were with friends in the backyard and driveway of their home in the 700 block, police said. The child went around to the front of the house and into the neighbor’s yard where he was attacked by the cocker spaniel/Labrador retriever mix, police said. He was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital of the Mahoning Valley in Boardman for treatment of bites to his face and back of his neck, police said.

The dog was confined by its owners and the county dog warden has been called to investigate, police said.
