Genealogy research to be addressed in July 10 workshops

As part of the Youngstown State University Festival of the Arts weekend, the Youngstown Historical Center Archives will host a series of genealogy- research workshops July 10.

Justin Hite, local archivist and graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Library and Information Science, will offer Cemetery Research 101 from 10 a.m. to noon followed by an optional walking tour of historic Oak Hill Cemetery.

This workshop will cover topics such as how to collect and use source material, headstone symbolism and using the Internet for cemetery research.

Intro to Genealogy at YHC Archives will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. by Martha Bishop, library assistant at YHC Archives. Topics will include basic how-to’s for family research, resources available at the archives, online and other community resources. There will be time for hands-on research after the session.

The workshops are appropriate for all ages. Contact the Youngstown Historical Center for more information and pre- registration at 330-743-5934. Workshop fee is $10 for each session. Credit cards are accepted.
