Volant Independence Festival to offer car cruise, family events

VOLANT, PA.

The Volant Independence Festival on Saturday will feature a car cruise, family games, carving and spinning demonstrations, entertainment and many other events.

Scheduled activities include a car cruise from 1 to 6 p.m. at various parking lots in town, a DJ from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Depot parking lot, period-dress photos from 10 a.m. to noon at the Volant Mill, pastry demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Kitchen Shoppe and an acoustic guitar performance at noon at The Blue Heron Art Gallery.

Games include a ring toss and balloon darts at 1906 Mercantile, cornhole games at The Shoppe at River’s Edge, Paint Creations by your own Hot Air! and giant bubbles, lucky lollipops and duck-pond fishing at Attic Treasures.

There will also be sack races at 1 p.m. at Volant Mill and a water-balloon toss, limbo and hula hooping from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Depot parking lot.

All-day activities will include a photography exhibit by Kathy Chirdon and Joe Conti at the Blue Heron Art Gallery, Wood Spirits carving and wool spinning at Miss Scarlett’s, snow cones for kids at Mary Jo’s Creations, free balloons and music on the deck at Bulk Food and Candy, character entertainment at Miss Scarlett’s and Amish Donuts, baked goods and kettle corn. Merchants will feature special sales and promotions.

Organizers also remind shoppers that bridge work on Pa. Route 208 is complete, and there are no more detours.
