Historical meeting

KINSMAN

When the Kinsman Historical Society meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday researchers will share new revelations about the Dr. Peter Allen House (1821), the building, the builder, the family and the times.

The public is invited to the meeting, at Kinsman Presbyterian Church, 6363 Church St.

Contestants vying for scholarships

MANSFIELD

The Miss Ohio Scholarship Program has announced that 26 contestants from across the state are competing through Saturday for the title of Miss Ohio 2010, for more than $44,000 in scholarships, and for a chance to represent Ohio at the Miss America pageant in January.

Among the contestants are: • Jacquelyn Nichols of Warren, who holds the title of Miss Vacationland. The 23-year old Kent State University student is a vocalist. Her platform is “Autoimmune Foundation of America.” • Heather Wells of Warren, Miss Mansfield, a 20-year-old student at KSU and a jazz dancer. Her platform is “L.E.A.D. Work of Local artist selected for art show

CANTON

A water media painting by Heidi Garwig of Boardman, an art teacher at Canfield Village Middle School, has been selected for the 33rd annual juried Ohio Watercolor Society exhibition at Canton Museum of Art, 1001 Market Ave. N. The exhibition will open Sept. 4 and run through Oct. 31.

There were 276 entries submitted and 77 were chosen for the exhibition. This year’s juror of selection and awards is John Salminen of Duluth, Mich., who has won more than 175 awards in national and international exhibitions and is best known for his realistic urban landscapes.

An exhibit, including all award winners, will tour Ohio following the conclusion of the exhibition at the Museum. For additional information contact Linda Hutchinson, 330-673-3844.
