Boardman Rotarians were treated to a visit by new Youngstown State University football coach Eric Wolford recently.

Coach “Wolf” was invited to speak to the club about his plans for the 2010 season, as well as his thoughts about returning to the Valley after 20 years.

Wolford shared his vision for leading the football program and the Mahoning Valley to greatness.

“YSU is the third safest college campus in Ohio and we need to tell that story,” he said.

He went on to compliment YSU Athletic Director Ron Strollo for his support in preparing top-rate facilities that will help bring high quality recruits to the team.

On his return to the Valley, Wolford emphasized it was an easy decision to come home,

“This area is all about family. I couldn’t imagine a better place to raise my kids.”

He said the time for negativity has passed and the community should embrace the positive changes taking place in the Valley. To support this new spirit, he plans to introduce several events, bringing the team and community closer together.

These include kid’s camps, “Football 101” camps for women, tailgating with the players and his own foundation to support children with special needs.

The Boardman Rotary Club meets Tuesdays at noon in the Boardman Park Community Center. For information about club activities, visit www.boardmanrotary.org.
