Praise and worship could be heard blocks away as church-goers gathered with their lawn chairs in hand.

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Dr., hosted its sixth annual block party service Sunday in its parking lot. The service was open to the public and used as an outreach program for people in the surrounding community.

“We usually block the streets off, but because of the weather, we just stayed in the lot,” said church Pastor Bob Quaintance.

The service featured music from the Leap of Faith praise team and the children’s Sunday School choir. Quaintance gave his sermon on the topic of “We Are Witnesses” and the morning service was concluded with communion.

The block party service began at 10 a.m. and lasted until 2 p.m. Children participated in face painting, jewelry making, inflatable slides, bounce-a-rounds and a variety of other games.

Quaintance said the church will continue to have its block party service on Homestead Drive in an attempt to reach out to the community. He said having picnics and services in local parks will not benefit as many individuals as having it in a residential area.
