YOUNGSTOWN

A free, one-week summer camp designed to challenge young children’s creativity in problem-solving will take place Monday through next Friday at Paul C. Bunn Elementary School, 1825 Sequoya Drive.

Any students enrolled in schools in Mahoning County who will be in grades one through five this fall can enroll in Camp Invention. Tuition costs are being waived through a grant from the Ohio STEM Committee.

The camp offers children a hands-on opportunity to learn through fun, inquiry-based activities.

The program features are:

Problem Solving on Planet Zak: Students will “crash-land” on an alien planet and use innovative thinking to assemble protective clothing, assess the weather and survive in a new environment.

Saving Sludge City: Students will rebuild a polluted town, creating clean landfills, inventing vehicles that won’t pollute the air and reinvent Sludge City.

Imagination Point — Ride Physics: Students will design their own rides for an amusement park and discover the science behind their model roller coasters and other rides.

I Can Invent: Participants will take apart a broken machine and see what is inside, using its gears, nuts and gadgets to invent a new machine.

Global Games: Students will explore soccer and other sports as they were first played in ancient times and then add their own twist.

To enroll, parents or guardians should call 800-968-4332.
