Family members, school staff and students gathered to congratulate and say goodbye to graduating seniors.

Canfield High School held its annual Baccalaureate service June 10 to honor its graduating seniors. The crowd was serenaded by Rachel Smith, Krista Lander, Danielle Goddard, Brad Smith, Anthony Ferraro and Jacob Hille who comprised Canfield’s brass band.

Candles were lit for belief, love, attitude, friendship, sacrifice and faith. A scripture was read between each candle lighting.

Fellowship of Christian Athlete’s Lance Hartshorn was the keynote speaker for the evening offering words of encouragement to the seniors. He referenced several Bible verses throughout his speech and left the students with an ending statement of faith.

“God has great plans for you,” Hartshorn said.

At the end of the service, a slide show featuring a photo and college information on each senior was presented to the audience. Refreshments were served in the school cafeteria where students socialized with parents and friends.

Lindsey Lewis said she will miss her friends when she goes away to college. She will be attending Ohio University studying to become a dance and intervention specialist.

“My friends and I made a lot of memories here, it just won’t be the same.”

Proud Canfield mother Karen Vouch had mixed emotions about her daughter, Angel, and her accomplishments. Angel will be heading off to Ohio Northern University in the fall and will be missed.

“I am very excited for her growing up and the future that awaits her,” Karen said. “I’m proud.”
