About 30 hourly workers are being transferred to the Delphi Packard Electric facility here from Delphi’s Rootstown facility, according to officials from the International Union of Electrical Workers-Communications Workers of America Local 717, which represents the Delphi workers here. The workers will transition to the plant in mid-July, when Delphi closes the Rootstown plant, said Tom Krolopp, shop chairman for Local 717.

2-week shutdown at GM Lordstown

Detroit

The General Motors complex in Lordstown is one of only two GM plants that will close for the normal two-week summer shutdown this year. The company said Thursday that it will keep nine of its 11 factories open through the traditional shutdown to meet high demand for vehicles such as the Buick LaCrosse and the Chevrolet Traverse. GM said in a statement that the company is trying to reduce wait time for dealers and customers to get vehicles.

Automakers traditionally have shut down plants for short periods during the summer while switching production of model years and to manage vacation time for workers. The only plants that will close this year are the Lordstown complex and the facility in Shreveport, La., which recently lost production when the Hummer brand was discontinued. The Lordstown plant needs time to change over from the Chevy Cobalt to the Chevy Cruze models, the company said in a statement.
