Children Services honors graduates at luncheon

WARREN

Trumbull County Children Services honored five high school graduates during an annual graduation luncheon June 15 at the agency’s multipurpose room in the Children’s Residential Center, 2282 Reeves Road NE.

Recognized at the event were Miranda Fisher of Niles McKinley, Nyrico Hadden of Canton McKinley, and Daniele Harris, Kerristan Hinkle and Tausha Milender, all of Warren G. Harding.

Officers from Warren Junior Women’s League/GFWC and the Foster Parent Association presented awards to the honorees.

Each year Children Services recognizes the accomplishments of young men and women who complete high school, having overcome struggles prior to, and during, their time in the agency’s custody. Youths in out-of-home care must deal with separation from parents and siblings, other family disruption, multiple moves, school changes, new friends, different expectations — all challenges that can lead to problems in the academic setting.

The speaker was LaTasha C. Watts, who spent her entire life in the foster care system in Cuyahoga County before graduating from high school.

Among the guests were community partners, agency staff and board members, Mayor Michael O’Brien, Commissioners Frank Fuda and Paul Heltzel; and Probate Court Judge Thomas Swift.
