Attorney general to discuss Forum

YOUNGSTOWN

Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray will have a press conference at 10 a.m. today to discuss the pending agreement between Forum Health and Ardent Health Services and the role of the attorney general’s office in reviewing and approving the proposed transaction.

Ardent, based in Nashville, Tenn., has proposed to pay $69.8 million to purchase all Forum’s assets, including its three hospitals and ancillary operations.

Forum has been in bankruptcy since March 2009.

The press conference will be at the local attorney general’s office, 20 Federal Place, 20 W. Federal St., third-floor conference room.

Suspect bound over

YOUNGSTOWN

A man charged with the attempted murder of a 17-year-old boy and with being a felon with a gun has waived his preliminary hearing in municipal court and been bound over to the Mahoning County grand jury.

After appearing Wednesday before Judge Robert P. Milich of Youngstown Municipal Court, the suspect, Richard Rice, 42, of North Lakeview Avenue, remains jailed under $600,000 bond.

Rice is charged with shooting and critically wounding Jevan Fitzgerald, of South Main Street, in front of 46 N. Lakeview on the city’s West Side, after a June 8 argument.

Tire-recycling drive

Beaver Township is having a tire-recycling drive for all Mahoning County residents from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the township recycling center, 601 W. South Range Road.

There is a limit of 10 tires per vehicle. Rates are first two tires per car are free and $1.50 per passenger car tire after that; $6 per tractor-trailer tire; and $10 for farm-equipment tires.

Tires with rims will be accepted for an additional fee. No commercial/business drop-offs will be accepted.

Girl, 16, arrested in Eastwood break-in

NILES

A 16-year-old girl was arrested on allegations of breaking and entering into Eastwood Mall about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The teenager is accused of breaking a window outside the J.C. Penney door to the parking lot, a window on the inside of the mall entrance to J.C. Penney and a third window at Victoria’s Secret, said Ken Kollar, general manager of the mall complex.

“I’m very upset this even occurred, but if it had to happen, I’m extremely pleased that our system worked,” Kollar said.

The mall had security guards stationed inside the building, and alarms were activated when the windows were broken, he said.

Move Expo June 29

Park Vista Retirement Community presents a Move Expo from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. June 29 in the Gathering Room at 1216 Fifth Ave.

The expo will feature vendors that will provide information to those who are contemplating downsizing, selling their home or making a move.
