Wine of the week

Wine of the week

What: 2007 Domaine les Pallieres Gigondas “Les Racines”

Facts: The 2007 bottling “Les Racines” is dense and inky, with a powerful perfume of wild herbs and berries that leads you back to the glass again and again. Each sip reveals something new — a hint of licorice, the taste of raspberries or black cherries. Yet for all its power, this blend of Grenache with a small proportion of Syrah, Cinsault and Clairette is remarkably supple and lush.

If you can’t find “Les Racines,” look for the other cuvee “Les Terrasse du Diable,” which may be more available. Either one is terrific.

Region: Southern Rhone, France

Price: About $35

Style: Rich and lush

What it goes with: Grilled meats, barbecued ribs, daube, duck breast

Not-so-silly rabbit

Peter Rabbit Organics offers fruit snacks made entirely of fruit, with no water, sugar or preservatives added. Flavors include strawberry and banana, mango, banana and orange, and apple and grape. They’re likely better for kids than a multicolored sugar cereal repped by another rabbit. The 3.5-ounce pouches are available for $1.99 each at Buy Buy Baby stores nationwide and in packs of 10 for about $17 at Amazon.com.
