Three of four males who carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint in the Walmart parking lot on Elm Road (state Route 5) around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday were captured by police within an hour.
But as of 10 p.m., police were still hunting for the fourth suspect with the help of police dogs from Warren, Niles and Fowler, according to the Trumbull County 911 Center.
The suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle and left its two or three occupants unharmed by the McDonald’s Restaurant on the Walmart property, just north of the Route 5 bypass, and fled the scene in their own vehicle.
The suspects’ vehicle was stopped by Champion police on the Route 5 bypass just east of state Route 45 near the Larchmont Avenue exit. The driver stayed with the vehicle and was immediately arrested, but his three companions fled on foot.
One was captured by Trumbull County deputy sheriffs at Everett Industries on Larchmont and another by Howland police in a swampy area near Everett Industries. Police recovered two guns in the suspects’ vehicle, according to the Trumbull 911 supervisor.
