Crashers land TV deal
NEW YORK
The woman who crashed President Barack Obama’s first state dinner has cashed in with a reality-TV deal.
The Bravo network said Tuesday that Michaele Salahi will be featured in the next installment of its “Real Housewives” franchise, this time focused on Washington.
Salahi and her husband, Tareq, talked their way into the dinner last November, forcing the White House to tighten security restrictions.
“The Real Housewives of D.C.” will debut Aug. 5 at 9 p.m.
Other “Real Housewives” joining Salahi include the granddaughter of TV personality Arthur Godfrey, the founder of a modeling agency, a British import who’s an interior designer and a real estate agent who started a charity for teenage girls in foster care.
Honor to Prince
NEW YORK
This month’s BET Awards will be a royal affair: Prince is getting a lifetime-achievement honor.
The 51-year-old joins the likes of James Brown, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and Al Green in being honored by the BET Awards, which will celebrate its 10th year in Los Angeles on June 27.
BET says the Prince tribute will stand out. Stephen G. Hill, president of programming, music and specials for the network, said BET will celebrate the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s “unique style.”
“Prince is dynamic. Prince is genius. Prince is music,” Hill said of the performer, who has 10 platinum albums and 30 Top 40 singles to his name.
The BET show will be hosted by Queen Latifah and include performances by Kanye West.
Cinderella story
NEW YORK
Anne Hathaway is stepping into a new Cinderella story.
The star of “Ella Enchanted” and “The Princess Diaries” will appear in the film adaptation of David Nicholls’ popular novel “One Day,” about a working-class woman’s romance with a charming rich man, played by Jim Sturgess.
The movie begins filming this summer. It will be directed by Lone Scherfig, an Oscar nominee for “An Education.”
The project was announced Tuesday by Focus Features and Random House Films, which have a partnership.
“One Day” was a No. 1 best-seller in England. It was released Tuesday as a paperback by Vintage Books, an imprint of Random House, Inc.
Nicholls has written the script for the film, scheduled to come out next year.
