YOUNGSTOWN

The young man who died in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on Interstate 680 near Market Street has been identified as John A. Zalovcik Jr., 22, of Compass West Drive, Austintown.

Zalovcik, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was southbound when he lost control, hit the concrete median and was ejected into a concrete pillar and killed instantly at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, police said.

The crash is still under investigation, and police said they did not have an estimate of Zalovcik’s speed.

A little more than an hour earlier, at 10:32 p.m. Sunday, there was a motorcycle accident at Fifth Avenue and Tod Lane on the city’s North Side.

The motorcyclist in that crash, David Crook, 55, of Cherry Street, who also was not wearing a helmet, remains in critical condition with a head injury in St. Elizabeth Health Center, said Detective Sgt. Patricia Garcar, accident investigator.

Crook, who was northbound on Fifth Avenue, broadsided a car that was being driven west on Tod Lane by Stacey Clarett, 45, of Ohio Avenue, who was not injured.

Garcar said she wants to hear from any witnesses to yet another evening motorcycle accident, this one having occurred at 9:39 p.m. May 26 at Market Street and Indianola Avenue.

The motorcyclist, Carly Bowlen, 21, of Southern Boulevard, Boardman, suffered a broken pelvis and remains in St. Elizabeth’s.

Bowlen was southbound on Market Street when she collided with a northbound car that turned left in front of her.

The driver of the car, a red 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, was Tiffany Kennedy, 26, of East Philadelphia Avenue, who was not injured.

Both drivers said the green light was in their favor, Garcar reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call Garcar at 330-742-8777.
