Authorities say dogs maul to death their Ohio owner

OBERLIN, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say an Ohio man was attacked and killed by his family’s dogs, who left bite wounds all over his body.

The Lorain County Sheriff’s office says 30-year-old Michael Winters was found by his father in a pool of blood in their driveway early Tuesday afternoon.

Coroner Paul Matus says the dogs left “hundreds” of bite wounds that caused extensive bleeding. Winters was pronounced dead at the scene in New Russia Township, 35 miles southwest of Cleveland.

The mostly large dogs were of various mixes. Deputies say two were shot when they approached officers aggressively and seven others were euthanized.

The coroner says the dogs may have developed a pack mentality, which can lead to an attack. Their remains will be tested for diseases, including rabies.
