Off-duty Pa. state trooper killed in wrong-way crash

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — An off-duty Pennsylvania State Police trooper driving the wrong way down Interstate 76 in Philadelphia was killed when he crashed into an oncoming car.

The accident happened around 1 a.m. today in the eastbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway near the Spring Garden exit ramp.

Investigators say a Honda Accord driven by 48-year-old John Quigg of Glenside nearly collided head-on with a Mercury Marquis driven by 23-year-old Chantelle Harper of Philadelphia.

Quigg was pronounced dead at a hospital. Harper suffered a broken leg and ankle.

The crash had the eastbound lanes of the expressway closed for several hours overnight.
