State releases $900,000 for projects at NEOUCOM

The state has released more than $900,000 for several improvement projects at the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy in Rootstown.

The largest, approved without comment by the state Controlling Board Monday, was $888,502 for the second phase of a steam-to-hot-water heating-conversion project.

The project is part of the campus’ efforts to make its heating systems more efficient, reducing the school’s natural-gas consumption by an estimated 43 percent annually, according to documents.

C.D. Whitfield Co. of Cleveland and S.M. Electric of Austintown are handling the work.

Also Monday, the Controlling Board released $186,231 for an air- conditioning upgrade and standby generator, for use by the college’s data center.

B&J Electric of Poland Inc., Meccon Inc. of Akron and Town Center Construction of Twinsburg are handling the work.

Additionally, the Controlling Board signed off on $22,070.29 for new insulation for buildings throughout the campus.

Campbell Masonry Restoration Inc. of Alliance is handling the work.
