A township man killed in a one-vehicle crash in Florida had been reported as a missing or endangered adult.

Raymond Gould, 78, of Rockdale Avenue, had traveled with his wife to Indian Valley, Fla., to visit family.

Over the weekend, family members reported Gould as missing or endangered to Florida authorities.

He was believed to have suffered from dementia.

Cpl. James Nusle of the Florida State Highway Patrol said that Gould was exiting Interstate 95 in Brevard County onto U.S. Route 192 when his van struck a safety barrier with its left front quarter panel. A safety barrier is similar to a guardrail.

“The left front tire popped,” Nusle said.

Gould’s van traveled about 100 feet along a wall before striking another safety barrier head-on.

Gould wasn’t wearing a seat belt, but the van’s airbag deployed.

The township man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No one else was in the vehicle.
