Police arrest fugitive, girlfriend

YOUNGSTOWN

Police searching for a fugitive wanted on numerous warrants said they wound up arresting both him and his girlfriend after she tried to hide him from officers.

Police went to a home in the 3000 block of Arden Boulevard around 10 a.m. Friday looking for Richard Latimer, 27, who lives at that address. Police said he was wanted by Mahoning County on five parole violations, the city of Youngstown on two warrants for receiving stolen property and the Columbiana County sheriff’s office on one warrant for escape.

Police said they were met at the door by Candace Devellin, 33, of the same address, whom they identified as Latimer’s girlfriend.

She denied he was in the house and said she hadn’t seem him for three weeks, police said.

Officers were able to secure permission from the house owner to search the residence and said they found Latimer hiding behind a piece of plywood leaning up against a wall in Devellin’s second-floor bedroom.

Latimer was arrested on the warrants. Devellin was arrested on a charge of obstructing justice. Both were taken to Mahoning County jail to await arraignment.
