Child-rape sentence

WARREN

Robert McIntire, 31, of 6466 McGuffey Road, Lowellville, has been sentenced to 10 years to life in prison for raping a 10-year-old boy in November and December 2009 in Liberty Township.

McIntire pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition this week in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court before Judge John M. Stuard.

Diane Barber, a Trumbull County assistant prosecutor, said the rape charges were reduced from one that could have produced a 25-years-to-life sentence to one carrying a 10-years-to-life sentence in exchange for his guilty plea.

Police charged Vincent M. Kather, 23, of the 400 block of East Montrose, Youngstown, with having weapons under disability, because he had a prior conviction for drug cultivation, and with driving on an expired driver’s license.

Police observed a car traveling east on Colonial Drive with a loud exhaust and checked the license plate. Information revealed the driver, Kather, had an expired license.

Police stopped the car, and a search turned up a sawed-off shotgun with the registration number removed. The barrel was under the 18-inch minimum. Kather was taken to Trumbull County jail.

His passenger, Athanasias Dourlas, 39, of the 2500 block of Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with possession of dangerous drugs because suspected prescription pills were found on him.

Four teens — two boys and two girls — face vandalism charges, accused of damaging windows at Market Street Elementary School.

Police were called about 8 p.m. Thursday on a report of juveniles who appeared to be trying to break into the school.

When they arrived, officers saw the youths, all 13, standing near the school, each holding long, thin strips of metal, a police report said.

Police later determined that the metal strips were removed from the school’s windows.

The girls and one boy, all of the township, and one boy from Vienna were released to their parents.
