Summer program for young actors

The Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre will hold a summer series of classes, June 21-25 for area students in grades one through 12.

First through third-graders can attend the “What If Story Trunk,” a class in which different costume pieces, props, musical instruments and other objects will be found in a trunk and used to create and act out stories. Class time is 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Instructor Candace DiLullo will work with middle school students in fourth through sixth grades. “Superheroes and Superheroines - Iron Man and the Avengers!” will have the class creating their own superhero characters and plotting a story as they acquire stage skills, vocal projection, characterization and body control. The class time is 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Beginning actors in grades seven through 12 may enroll in “Acting 101,” conducted by Instructor John Pecano.

Classwork covers auditioning, improvisation, characterization and monologues. Class time is 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

“Advanced Acting,” also taught by Pecano, will have students working on script analysis, duet acting and scene study as they explore the process of producing a stage play. This class will introduce the important roles of lighting and sound design in a theatrical production. Class time is 11 a.m. to noon.

The cost is $65 per student. Enrollment is limited. For information and registration, call 330-788-8739.
