Singing talent competition at MetroPlex

A singing competition will begin next week at the MetroPlex Hotel, with a $500 prize to the winner.

It will take place weekly beginning June 19 in the Liberty Room of the Belmont Avenue hotel, which was the site of a poker room that recently closed. There is a $25 entrance fee. Singers and other musicians can also register by calling Ed Itayim at 330-774-4764.

Contestants can begin registering Saturday at the Libery Room, when Youngstown’s Total Package band will play from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is $5 at the door. Saturday’s event will be the first in a series of dance and country-music parties to be at the venue. Contestants will get a chance to sing at the event.

The competition will take about six weeks, and the two finalists will perform before a talent scout.
