OHSAA doesn’t vote on site for football

The Ohio High School Athletic Association did not award the state football championships at its Board of Directors meeting on Thursday.
Stark County, which has hosted the championship games for the last 20 years, and Columbus are bidding for the title games from 2012-14.
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel is leading the Columbus bid.
The OHSAA board did not receive a recommendation from the site selection committee.
The games are expected to be awarded at the OHSAA’s next meeting in August.
The board did approve a dual meet wrestling state tournament, to begin during the 2012-13 school year, which will be conducted in addition to the current individual state tournament.
Also, the OHSAA will allow hockey teams to play 17-minute periods on an optional basis during the regular season.
However, the hockey coaches association’s proposal to expand the state tournament weekend from four to eight teams was denied.
Also, the OHSAA denied a request from the state basketball coaches association to expand the regular season to 22 games, and tabled a proposal to allow individual instruction during open gym.
