Mooney speech duo second at national competition

Cardinal Mooney High School speech team members Patrick Hobby and Carly Carano competed against more than 200 students from throughout the United States and Canada and walked away with second place at the National Catholic Forensic League Tournament at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., during Memorial Day weekend.
Both are residents of Poland.
Hobby and Carano competed in Duo Interpretations which required each of them to present one or more characters from a single selection of literature and interact meaningfully with the other character presented by their partner. The selections had to be memorized and could not exceed 10 minutes.
The students are coached by Stephanie Pallai and qualified for the National Forensic League Tournament scheduled for mid-June in Kansas City.
Hobby graduated June 5 and will attend Youngstown State University and Carano is a junior.
