Local fruit and vegetable farmer John Huffman, from Greenford, was honored by Dublin Grange of Canfield as its 2010 Community Citizen of the Year.

Huffman and his family were honored for their longtime promotion of agriculture and involvement in the community.

The honor is presented yearly in April or May as part of National Grange Week.

His wife, Emily, and two of their adult children were present at the event. Huffman is active in Midway Mennonite Church, Farm Bureau, Stambaugh Chorus, and Beekeepers Association.

He is a graduate of Greenford High School and Goshen College in Indiana.

The family farm is on Lisbon Road, with an active farm market open year-round.

Huffman commented on the problems of weather, insects, and pesticide rules, as well as foreign competition in the field of apples.

Honored at the same ceremony were longtime members, including two 50-year members, Elsie DeHoff and Kenneth Reel of Austintown. Past masters of the Grange were recognized.
