Canfield High School class of 2010 honor students were presented their gold cords at the Senior Awards Assembly June 2.

Canfield High School honored the class of 2010 at its annual Senior Awards Assembly June 2. The class entered the auditorium to the applause of family, friends, Board of Education members, teachers and members of the freshman, sophomore and junior classes.

The seniors who received awards were honored for achieving a certain measure of excellence.

Students with the top GPAs were recognized at the event. Steven Dalvin, Meghan Kubic, Virginia Li and Mark Pagano were honored as the class valedictorians and David Gabrieli was named salutatorian.

Steven Dalvin, Beth Earles, McKenna Goske, Meghan Kubic, Virginia Li, Mark Pagano, Rachael Pintaric, Allison Sees and Kirsten Weaver were recognized for achieving a 4.0 GPA.

Perfect attendance awards went to Donnie Allison, Andrew Halley and Peter Zelinka.

In honor of her outstanding score on the SAT, Emma Shebat, who is headed to Northwestern, was recognized as the winner of the $2,500 National Merit scholarship.

National Merit finalists were Donald J. DeSanto and Virginia Li.

Pagano was the recipient of the 2009-10 National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar award. The winners in the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Program were Steven Dalvin and Whitney Graff.

Amanda Orr won $1,000 from the Ohio Girls Golf Association and the Mahoning County Independent Insurance Agents Junior Golf Scholarship of $500 went to Erin McGlone.

Ryan Sankovic earned $1,000 from the Gleaner Life Insurance Society Scholarship Foundation.

Honor students included Donald Allison, Megan Bane, Angela Bouch, Russell Bresson, Rebecca Brown, Christopher Burke, Morgan Cheeks, Steven Dalvin, Donald DeSanto, James Ferrick, Hillary Fowler, David Gabrieli, Cassandra Homick, Jessica Hughes, Meghan Kubic, Virginia Li, Rachel Olson, Mark Pagano, Rachel Pintaric, Allison Sees, Emma Shebat, Pawan Solanki, John Vagas, Justen Vrabel, Maggie Wagner, Kirsten Weaver and Elizabeth Wilkins.

Several students were honored in specific subject areas. The Individual Subject Area Outstanding Students winners were Nicole Mehle; (Art), Tyler Wilson (Business), John Vagas (Choral Music), Meghan Kubic (English), Ariel Vaccar (Family and Consumer), Maggie Wagner (French), Layla Banaie (German), Wesley Stanton (Industrial Technology), Peter Zelinka (Instrumental Music), Mark Pagano (Italian), Kelly Kuppler (Spanish), David Gabrieli (Math), Rachel Olson (Science), John Vagas (Social Studies) and Emma Shebat (Speech).
