American Legion celebrates Poland

The Sons of the American Legion Mahoning Valley Squadron 15 will conduct its ninth annual flag disposal ceremony and its second annual chicken dinner June 25, in conjunction with Celebrate Poland.

The public can participate in a flag disposal ceremony at 8:45 p.m. at the War Memorial Building Post 15, 35 Cortland St.

“This is a great way for us to educate the public on proper disposal of unserviceable American flags,” said Squadron 15 Commander Jeff Vrabel, Sr. “Every year, people walk by and say ‘Look at them burning the flag,’” According to Vrabel, this is the proper way to dispose of worn, torn, frayed and faded American flags. Residents with flags in need of disposal can drop them off at the post home in the receptacle labeled flag disposal.

A chicken dinner featuring one-half chicken, two sides and bread will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The dinner is being catered by Carmelo’s Fire and Smoke of Poland and the cost is $8. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by calling 330-757-8722. Takeout orders and beverages will be available.

All proceeds will benefit the various programs of Sons of the American Legion Mahoning Valley Squadron 15.
