2 Trumbull men appointed to port authority

Staff report

WARREN

The Trumbull County commissioners have appointed two men to fill the vacancies on the Western Reserve Port Authority, the body that runs the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport and a new economic-development office.

Atty. James G. Floyd of Warren, a partner in the Youngstown law firm Newman, Olson and Kerr, will fill the position left vacant by the resignation of Thomas Petrarca on Feb. 24.

Richard P. Musick of Cort- land, former owner of The Insurance Center of Warren Agency Inc., owner of the Insurance Center of Canfield and a member of the Trumbull County Planning Commission, will fill the position left vacant by the resignation of Atty. John J. Masternick on April 21.

Commissioner Paul Heltzel said Floyd, of Howland, gives the port authority a person familiar with both Trumbull and Mahoning counties — the two counties that provide funding and oversight for the port authority.

Floyd also has experience with contractors, and board members felt it would be beneficial to have someone on the board with construction experience, Heltzel said.

Musick, of Bazetta Township, has business experience, specializes in business insurance, and helped with the selection of Rose Ann DeLeon to the 7-month-old port authority economic-development position, Heltzel said.

Musick has served about four years on the planning commission, which addresses infrastructure improvements such as water and sewer lines and works on planning activities throughout the county.

He also is a former three-year member of the Cortland Planning Commission.

Nine people “with good credentials” applied for the two open spots, said Commissioner Frank Fuda.

Mahoning and Trumbull County commissioners each appoint four members of the port authority, which relies on funding from hotel/motel taxes from each county to operate.
