Springfield promotes cop, hires patrolman


NEW SPRINGFIELD

Springfield Township trustees promoted Sgt. Ray Fellows to a vacant lieutenant position when they met Wednesday. Fellows has served as sergeant since 2005 and has been on the police force since 1993. In his new post he will be paid $25.17 hourly. The vacant sergeant’s job will be posted.

Trustees also hired Cody Holmes of Columbiana as a part-time patrolman. Holmes has served as a police officer for Goshen Township. He will be paid $13.11 hourly.

Also Wednesday, trustees awarded a bid for paving Cherry and High streets in Petersburg to R.T. Vernal Paving, Beaver Township. Vernal was the lowest of three bidders, offering to do the job for $30,760. Other bidders were Butch & McCree, Hillsville, at $31,160 and Barbicas Construction, Akron, at $32,300.

Trustees also approved paying $1,025 to offer a training class presented by Occupational Automotive Industry Related Education of Edina, Minn., on special hazards to firefighters posed by hybrid electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel- cell vehicles.
