Salem annexes 99 acres in Green, Perry townships

SALEM

Ninty-nine acres of Perry Township and Green Township were annexed into Salem during a council meeting Wednesday night, a move allowed after a Columbiana County common pleas judge ruled against the plaintiffs in a lawsuit seeking to halt the annexation.

Columbiana County Common Pleas Court David Tobin on Tuesday ruled against the challenge by the Green Township Trustees. City Law Director Brooke Zellers said at Wednesday’s meeting that council’s final passage of the annexation ordinance changed the legal situation so any appeal of the judge’s ruling would be moot. Mayor Jerry Wolford wanted the 99.8-acre annexation to allow the city to grow.
