POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Hubbard and Liberty:

GIRARD

June 7

Theft: The owner of a U.S. Route 422 self-service car wash reported three people used phony coins in the machines.

Domestic violence: Police charged Amanda Wilson and John Chamberlain, both of 105 Elruth Court, Girard, after saying they observed minor injuries on both. Each had assaulted the other during an argument, a report said.

Theft: Six firearms were taken from a residence in the 1800 block of South State Street. The theft came to $2,050.

Attempted burglary: A couple returned to their home in the 1100 block of North Highland Avenue and saw that a rear door had been pried open. Nothing seem to have been missing, however.

June 8

Menacing: A Girard woman reported another female posted numerous derogatory online comments regarding the accuser.

Domestic violence: Robert C. Clark, no age, 441 Indiana Ave., Girard, faced a charge after his girlfriend alleged he had grabbed her shirt and pushed her into a washing machine during an argument. She also told police Clark choked her teenage daughter.

Breaking and entering: Someone cut a fence, entered an Ohio Edison Co. substation on Trumbull Avenue and took about $125 worth of copper wire.

Burglary: To a home in the 500 block of West Liberty Street, from which an $800 laptop computer, $200 and an MP3 player were stolen.

June 9

Arrest: Officers responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of Church Hill Road and later charged Bryce Edwards of Warren with disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle impaired. Police were called a second time to the residence and learned Edwards had chased two people in his pickup truck, a report showed.

HUBBARD

June 5

Vandalism: Eggs were tossed at a residence in the 40 block of Hillcrest Avenue.

Arrest: Hubbard authorities were to pick up Ira J. Rihel, no information provided, at the Mahoning County jail on felony charges of receiving stolen property, forgery and passing bad checks.

Theft: A woman in the 300 block of West Liberty Street reported the theft of tire rims.

June 6

Criminal damaging: Damage was done to property on Hillcrest Avenue.

June 7

Criminal damaging: A vehicle near Sunset Drive was intentionally scratched.

Criminal damaging: Someone, likely riding a four-wheel vehicle, damaged a portion of a field in a park off Myron Street.

June 8

Theft: A West Liberty Street woman told police money was removed from her account without authorization.

Arrest: The Girard Municipal Court issued a warrant against Daniel Good of Hubbard on charges of receiving stolen property and failure to appear for a violation-of-probation hearing.

LIBERTY

June 4

Criminal mischief: Someone used an unknown chemical to write on a portion of turf on a football field at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way.

Drugs: Two 17-year-old Niles boys were charged with drug abuse after having been pulled over on state Route 193. Found were a suspected marijuana cigarette as well as suspected marijuana flakes, police said.

June 5

Arrest: Authorities on Belmont Avenue pulled over 27-year-old Phillip A. Latimer, 9144 Sharrott Road, Poland, and took him into custody upon learning he was wanted by Youngstown police on charges of assault and theft.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop near Colonial Drive led to charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing official business against 56-year-old Edward Cornwell, 3121 Ohio Ave., Youngstown, when, police said, he had a suspected crack pipe and refused to allow officers to handcuff him.

Criminal damaging: Someone spray-painted graffiti on walls and a door to a building in the 3500 block of Belmont Avenue.

Theft: A $1,000 laptop computer was removed from a car in the 2600 block of Northview Drive.

Theft by deception: Three females were pulled over near Fifth Avenue but released after employees of Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, reported they had tried to make fraudulent returns of merchandise.

Auto theft: A 1996 Chevrolet Blazer was stolen in the 20 block of Colonial Drive.

Theft/damage: Someone broke into and removed items from several cars in the 500 block of Gypsy Lane.

June 6

Criminal damaging: BBs were used to damage two front windows at a home in the 4700 block of Fifth Avenue.

June 7

Theft/trespassing: Copper wiring was taken from a garage at Valley Electrical Consolidated Inc., 977 Tibbetts-Wick Road, after someone had cut a chain-link fence to enter.

Bad check: A Mineral Ridge woman was thought to have written a $127 check to AT&T, 3614 Belmont Ave., that was returned on a closed account.

Theft: A 600-watt amplifier, a car radio and $30 were removed from a truck in the 5800 block of Sampson Drive.

June 8

Drug paraphernalia: Tina Cardona, 42, of 35 Thai Drive, Warren, faced charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and falsification after being stopped by police in the 3900 block of Belmont Avenue. Two suspected crack pipes were found, a report said.

June 9

Burglary: Took place in the 20 block of Craig Lane through a window. A cell phone and $70 were among the items taken.
