The community and graduates are invited to tour Hubbard High School from 5 to 9 p.m. today and Friday. The school will be demolished in September; a new school is under construction.

An auction is planned at 9 a.m. Saturday at HHS.

Child-porn charge

PITTSBURGH

A federal grand jury has indicted a 37-year-old Volant, Pa., man on a charge of violating federal child-pornography laws.

The indictment, which was unsealed last week, charges Matthew Duddy with possessing visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct between Nov. 28, 2009, and Jan. 21, 2010.

Duddy faces up to 10 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine if he’s convicted, the U.S. attorney said.

The case was investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police under the U.S. attorney-sponsored national program, known as Project Safe Childhood, established in 2006 to protect children from online exploitation and abuse.

Purse snatching

A 40-year-old woman told police her purse was stolen as she got out of her vehicle at Southern Park Mall.

The woman said she was getting out of her car about noon Tuesday when someone grabbed her purse from behind, ripping it from her hand. She saw a man running away toward Chili’s restaurant.

Flag Day celebration

Sunday open house

The East Palestine Historical Society will have an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the log cabin, 555 Bacon Ave.

Tours will be offered.

Pound for Pound

Corner House Christian Church, 6954 Chestnut Ridge Road, will sponsor a Pound for Pound Pledge community program to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.

Participants must register at www.pfpchallenge.com and give their ZIP code. Participants also will be asked to give the number of pounds they pledge to lose.

“The Biggest Loser,” a national television program shown on NBC, will credit Second Harvest with 14 cents for each pound of weight.

Painting fire hydrants

LEETONIA

Gary E. Phillips, village administrator, said that 50 people from Greenford Christian Church will paint fire hydrants between 9 a.m. and noon Sunday. The event is part of a program called “Be the Church.”

There are about 150 hydrants in the village, he said.Whether the volunteers get to all the hydrants will depend in part on the weather.

The village will provide the paint, sandpaper and other items needed for the work.

Bruce Rhodes, administrator of the church, said the church does projects to share the love of Christ.

Members of the church have an early breakfast on Sundays and then work on projects.
