LIBERTY

Belmont Pines Hospital, 615 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, is offering free sessions that offer continuing education units for counselors and social workers. They are:

“Best Practices in Treating Childhood Disorders” on June 22 at 1:30 p.m. The guest speaker is Dr. David Chiarella, Ph.D.

“Ethics in Counseling & Social Work” on June 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. The keynote speaker is Linda J. McArdle, master of social work, from the University of Akron.

Course participants will receive a free lunch at the events, which are offered in conjunction with the Youngstown State University Department of Social Work and the National Association of Social Workers-Ohio Chapter Region IV. For more information or to register, call Dave Watts at 330-545-7956.

Red Cross program

BOARDMAN

GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow, an American Red Cross program for people too young to become certified lifeguards, is offered June 21-25 at the Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road. The program is for swimmers age 11 to 15 who swim well enough to learn lifesaving skills in and around the water, as well as leadership and professional development. Classes are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The fee is $165, which includes a $25 registration fee. Extended hours are also available at an additional $14. Each participant will need to bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, change of clothes and lunch. To register, call 330-480-5655.

The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross, 8392 Tod Ave., is offering baby-sitter training June 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The fee is $35. Students can register by calling 330-726-6063.

POLAND

Woodlands Assisted Living at Hampton Woods, 1525 E. Western Reserve Road, is offering a free lecture on osteoarthritis of the hip and knee Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Speaker for the event, sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation Northeastern Ohio Chapter, is Dr. Raymond Duffett of University Orthopedics Youngstown, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement. Light refreshments will be served. Also, The Woodlands at AustinWoods conducts Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Exercise classes at the Ursuline Mother House in Canfield. The Mahoning/Colum-biana Medical Reserve Corps is offering free training June 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Salem Community Center, 1098 North Ellsworth Ave. Dinner and registration is at 4:45 p.m. The training is for medical professionals who are or would like to become Medical Reserve Corps volunteers. The Medical Reserve Corps is designed to supplement local emergency professional health resources utilizing all licensed professionals during emergency and nonemergency situations. Trainees include, but are not limited to, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, counselors, dentists, emergency medical technicians, veterinarians, pharmacists and physician assistants.
