Confederate Railroad at Columbiana fair

LISBON

Country music band Confederate Railroad will be the headline entertainer at this year’s Columbiana County Fair. The band will perform at the grandstand at 8 p.m. Aug. 3. Tickets are $10 for reserved seats and standing-room and are on sale at columbianacountyfair.com.

Other grandstand events include demolition derbies on Aug. 2 and 8, which are the first and last days of the fair; a truck and tractor pull, Aug. 6 and 7; and rodeo, Aug. 5. Tickets are $5 for each event.

Animal sanctuary plans Poker Run

Alchemy Acres Animal Sanctuary will have a Benefit Bike and Car Cruise and fourth annual Poker Run June 27. Check-in will be at 11 a.m. and vehicles will leave at noon. They will start and finish at Shepherd Self Storage in Boardman and make stops at Dairy Queen in East Palestine, Guilford Lake Grille and Alchemy Acres in Salem.

There will also be a Chinese auction, raffle and prize for farthest traveler. Registration is $10 per person and includes after-party with concert by Abbey Road and dinner.

Toiletware lecture at museum

EAST LIVERPOOL

Sarah W. Vodrey will give a lecture titled “Tantalizing Toiletware” at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Museum of Ceramics, 400 E. Fifth St. Vodrey is director of the museum.

Attendees will learn the connection between Civil War Gen. Benjamin Butler and chamber pots of New Orleans; discover the uses of a slop jar and mouth ewer; and learn how to distinguish between a soup tureen and a chamber pot. Participants can also bring their favorite piece of East Liverpool-area made ceramic toilet ware, and share its history or learn more about it.

The lecture is free with the cost of admission ($4 adults, $2 students). To reserve a seat, call 800-600-7180.

Summer concerts

NEW CASTLE, Pa.

The summer music concert series begins Friday at the Riverwalk Amphitheater, Washington and East streets, behind Cascade Center, downtown. All concerts begin at 6 p.m. Here is the schedule:
