Teen shot multiple times on West Side

A juvenile was in critical condition Tuesday night in St. Elizabeth Health Center after being shot multiple times during an altercation just before 7 p.m. in front of 46 N. Lakeview Ave. on the city’s West Side.

City police said the shooting occurred when the suspect, an adult male, was driving on North Lakeview and apparently became upset with a group of young adults and juveniles gathered on the street.

The suspect stopped and got out of his car and confronted a 16-year-old. When a 17-year-old stepped up to defend the 16-year-old, the suspect went back to his car and returned with a handgun and shot the victim several times. Police did not release names of the victim or the suspect.

The suspect fled the scene and was later arrested without incident attempting to enter Interstate 680 from Mahoning Avenue after his car was spotted by Patrolman Anthony Vittulo.
