Supervisors to approve cable-TV contract

HILLSVILLE, Pa.
Although they are not satisfied with the contract, Mahoning Township supervisors plan to approve a new 10-year agreement with Comcast to provide cable television service to township residents. Comcast has been the township cable provider for several years.
At their meeting Tuesday, supervisors authorized advertising the contract ordinance with an eye to approving it in July or August.
The new contract will provide residents with an option for cable Internet service and increase the township’s remuneration to 5 percent of the franchise fees.
The contract still fails to provide service to residents who live in less-densely populated areas of the township, a subject of complaints from residents over the years. Township Solicitor Louis Perrotta said the township had no other option.
Also Tuesday, Pool Director Shadda Kroll announced that the township pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, beginning Saturday. Rates will remain the same at $2.50 for residents and $3 for nonresidents. Several community groups have made the expanded schedule possible by paying for their groups to use the pool, she said.
Supervisors also:
Said they will contact Aqua Water and ask why it took several hours for them to stop a water break that flooded Erie Street on Friday.
Hired Brian Maglioca of New Castle as a full-time patrolman at $14 per hour plus benefits. He will be on a one-year probation Maglioca formerly was a police officer for Shenango Township and works for South New Castle borough.
Established the hourly rate for a full-time patrolman at $14 per hour.
Heard Township Sewage Enforcement Officer Tony Sabbaro complain that the township is granting building permits to some residents without requiring them to have a septic-tank check, which is required by law. Both Supervisors Vito Yeropoli and Gary Pezzuolo objected to requiring a resident to pay $15,000 for a new septic system.
