Rose society schedules show at Fellows Riverside Gardens
YOUNGSTOWN
Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park, 123 McKinley Ave., will be the setting Saturday and Sunday for the eighth annual Mahoning Valley Rose Society Rose Show.
Dedicated to the memory of Richard “Dick” Smith, a charter member of the society, the show will be judged by Pat Sommer and Jeff Sommer, American Rose Society accredited judges.
All entries must have been grown in a private outdoor garden and correctly named and classified. Only one person or a team from one garden may enter a class. Only one entry of each variety may be entered in each class.
There is no fee for exhibitors to register with the registration committee.
Exhibitors may present their entries from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and following judging, there will be a Chinese auction and exhibits will be open for viewing from 1 to 5 p.m.
Open viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, and winners of the Chinese auction will be selected at 3.
Prizes and certificates will be presented to the winners at the next meeting of the MVRS. Ribbons, certificates and prizes will be mailed to winners who provide the show committee with a stamped mailing envelope.
At the conclusion of the show, the roses presented for exhibition will be donated to local health facilities.
Pat Martinec and Joan Sewickley are co-chairwomen for the show. Martinec will be in charge of the program; clerks and runners will be Judy Arlow, Margaret Linn, Margaret Raupach and Carol Holt; and certificates will be handled by Andres Pernotto.
Holt and members of the society will serve on the placement committee, set up and tear down; Kim Cerimele and Andy Mihalic will be in charge of the Chinese auction, and serving on their committee will be Carole Martyndow and Bob Sofranec. Arlene Lanz is handling arrangements for Fellows Riverside Gardens.
