A resident of the 1800 block of South State Street reported a theft of six guns to police. The man said the guns, valued at $4,000, are Smith and Wesson .40 caliber, undetermined-brand .22-caliber, Winchester model 30/30, two Savage 12-gauge and Commanche .357-caliber revolver.

The man told police Monday that he kept one gun in his bedroom and the others in a safe. He said his roommate may have taken the keys to the safe and taken the guns. The victim said his roommate was recently arrested by Austintown police for driving under suspension, and his car was impounded. The guns are believed to be in the car.

2 acres donated

MINERAL RIDGE

Weathersfield Township trustees accepted a donation Tuesday of approximately 2 acres of wooded land off Edwards Street from Walter Williams. Trustee chairman Steve Gerberry said trustees are “pretty excited” about receiving the land, though there are no specific plans for it. In other business at their meeting Tuesday, trustees named Jamie S. Bailey to the Board of Zoning Appeals to fill the unexpired term of the late Lydia Infante. The term expires Dec. 31, 2012. Mrs. Infante died earlier this year.

Copper wire stolen

Police received a call about the theft of copper wire at the new Girard Junior/Senior High School, 1244 Shannon Road. It is believed the incident occurred over the weekend. How much copper was stolen and its value have not been determined.

This is the second theft of copper at the construction site. A previous theft occurred between last Wednesday and Thursday.

Juveniles fighting

Police received multiple calls about a group of 15 juveniles fighting about 9 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of East Liberty. There was a report of someone flashing a handgun, but police believe that is not true. There were no arrests.
