5 dead in head-on collision on I-70 near Zanesville


ZANESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a car crossed the median of an interstate in central Ohio, colliding head-on with a minivan and killing five people.

The patrol says another person is in serious condition following the crash at about 1 p.m. today on eastbound I-70 in Muskingum County.

The patrol says its initial investigation shows that five people traveling in the westbound car died after the vehicle struck the minivan, which was heading east. The van’s driver is in serious condition, and a passenger appears to be uninjured.

The patrol has not released the identities of those involved.

The patrol’s Zanesville post is investigating.
