Wilson targets national spending

U.S. Rep. Charlie Wilson said he wants Congress to pass legislation that would put the country back on a path of fiscal responsibility.

“I share the concerns that many Americans have about our country’s financial future,” Wilson, of St. Clairsville, D-6th, said Monday at the Steel Trolley Diner in Lisbon. “With escalating spending and a growing national debt [of more than $13 trillion], there is a legitimate concern about how we begin to correct our economic course.”

Wilson said he is sponsoring or co-sponsoring 10 current or upcoming bills in the U.S. House that would enact common-sense spending, “trimming the fat” and reducing debt.

Wilson is the lead sponsor on a bill he’ll introduce shortly that would create a box on federal income tax forms allowing taxpayers to contribute $3 toward reducing the national debt.
