New Columbiana County property taxes to be revealed this fall
LISBON
Property owners in Columbiana County will get a glimpse of their new property taxes later this year.
Columbiana County Auditor Nancy Milliken Monday said she will be sending new property valuations to the Ohio Department of Taxation for review by next Monday.
New valuations may not be approved until late September, she said.
J. M. Clemingshaw Inc.’s Streetsboro office has done the appraisal work for the county. The county is concluding a county-wide appraisal required by law every six years.
Milliken said Monday every piece of property was viewed. The county has 72,000 parcels of property.
The county has been working on the project since October 2008.
Nick Barborak, county treasurer, county Commissioner Dan Bing and Milliken must approve the revaluations before they go to the state.
Barborak said the county collects about $66 million each year for property taxes, but very little of it goes to county funding.
Once the new valuations are announced, Milliken will have town meetings to discuss any changes. People will be able to look up their new property valuations from computers.
