Exec won't give date for new Cedar Point ride

SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) — The head of Cedar Point’s parent company says the Ohio amusement park’s new but postponed water ride is being worked on around the clock in Europe.

Dick Kinzel, Cedar Fair CEO, talked about the problems with Shoot the Rapids in separate interviews with the Sandusky Register and The Blade of Toledo on Monday, after his company’s annual shareholders meeting.

He wouldn’t be pinned down about when the $10.5 million flume ride might open but said it would not be out for the entire season.

Kinzel says the boats did not fit the ride and are still being modified by their Switzerland-based manufacturer.

Shoot the Rapids is the park’s biggest addition this year and was supposed to be ready when Cedar Point opened for the season in mid-May.
