Austintown sibs double up at derby

It took an extra day because of poor weather conditions, but the Greater Youngstown Area Soap Box Derby was completed Sunday afternoon on Seaborn Street with two Austintown brothers claiming first place in their respective divisions.
Brandon Krohn, 10, won the Stock Division in his third year of competing. Brandon will be a fifth- grader at Austintown Frank Ohl next year.
He is the brother of Zack Krohn, 12, going into sixth grade at Austintown Middle School next year, who won the Super Stock Division. Zack is competing for his sixth year.
Winner of the Master’s Division was Haleigh Kuebler, 16, of Berlin Center, who will be a junior at Berlin Western Reserve High School next year. She competed for her sixth year.
The Stock Division is for drivers 8 to 13 who are under 5 feet 3 inches tall and weigh less than 125 pounds. The maximum combined weight for car and driver is 200 pounds.
The maximum combined weight of driver and car in the Super Stock Division is 230 pounds. It is for drivers 10 to 17 who are under 6 feet tall and weigh less than 150 pounds.
In the Masters Division, the driver is between 10 and 17 with a maximum combined weight of driver and car of 255 pounds.
The Krohn brothers and Kuebler advance to the 73rd All American Soap Box Derby in Akron on July 24.
Kuebler was last year’s Super Stock Division champion, and Zack Krohn was last year’s Stock Division champion, said Dennis Tomory, a Soap Box Derby board member.
